GUTS was an idea that was born during the ECA junior tournament last year. There was a need to express issues in badminton outside just match reports and profiles, especially of state-level or junior players in Bangalore. Thomas immediately found a few sponsors and we published our first issue in October last year. The cover was Aravind’s interview, having won the Czech International after a year-long injury layoff.
GUTS remained an Indian newsletter until I went for the All England. Suddenly, we had exclusive interviews with Tine Rasmussen and Chen Jin, and so the next issue had an international flavour. Immediately after was the India Open at Hyderabad, featuring players such as Zhou Mi, Yu Hirayama and Boonsak Ponsana. From then on, GUTS became an Indian window into world badminton.
