Jwala/Ashwini crash to Qing Tian/Yunlei
Seoul (Korea): The Indian challenge at the Korea Open Premier Super Series ended with the women’s doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa falling to a Chinese pair in the quarterfinals. Jwala and Ashwini were packed off by eighth seeds Qing Tian and Zhao Yunlei 21-16 21-15 in exactly half-an-hour. The Korea Open is the first million dollar prize money event in badminton. Saina falls; Jwala-Ashwini in quarters
Incheon (Korea): Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa were the only Indians remaining at the Korea Open Premier Super Series at the end of the second round on Thursday. Jwala and Ashwini took nearly an hour to quell the challenge of Japan’s Mizuki Fujii and Reika Kakiiwa and enter the quarterfinals, but fourth seeded Indian Saina Nehwal unexpectedly fell to the unseeded Japanese Sayaka Sato, whom she had beaten in the final of the Indonesia Open Super Series last year. Incheon (Korea): Saina Nehwal entered the second round of the Korea Open Super Series with a hard-fought win over Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei. The 19-21 21-14 22-20 win gave her a match-up with Japan’s Sayaka Sato. Continue reading
