Saina continues to sizzle

Jakarta, June 26: Saina Nehwal’s astonishing run of form continued as she made the final of the Indonesia Open Super Series in Jakarta with an unexpectedly easy victory over Eriko Hirose of Japan. The top seed required less than half-an-hour to beat a player who had beaten her at the Denmark Open Super Series in October. Saina’s clinical 21-9 21-10 victory on Saturday leaves her just a victory short of defending her Indonesia Open title, and a further move up the rankings. Continue reading

Kashyap falls to Taufik in three-game thriller

Jakarta, June 23: P Kashyap’s mother Subhadra is a fan of Taufik Hidayat. She doesn’t usually attend badminton matches, but at the World Championships last August, she made it a point to watch Taufik in action – such is the Indonesian’s allure.
On Wednesday, however, she was forced to pray for his defeat – her son was taking on the former Olympic and world champion on his home turf, in the first round of the Indonesia Open Super Series. Continue reading
