Saina crashes out in quarters; Lin-LCW clash in final

Birmingham: Indian hope Saina Nehwal faltered in the quarterfinals of the All England Open badminton championships to a Japanese player who had to keep away thoughts of the devastating tsunami at home. All England: Saina in quarters

Birmingham: Title contender Saina Nehwal stormed into the quarterfinals of the All England Badminton Championships with a straight-set victory over her Chinese Taipei opponent in Birmingham. Saina, seeded fifth in the prestigious tournament, beat unseeded Tzu Ying Tai 21-17 21-17 in a second round match that lasted 30 minutes. Ajay Jayaram, Anand Pawar advance into main draw

Birmingham: Ajay Jayaram and Anand Pawar entered the main draw of the All England Open Premier Super Series tournament, winning both their qualifying matches on Tuesday. In the first round of qualifying, Jayaram got past Dutch veteran Eric Pang 21-17 21-14, while Pawar overcame young Dane Rune Ulsing 21-10 22-20. Later in the day, Jayaram had another good win, over Hans-Christian Vittinghus (Den) 17-21 21-15 22-20. Anand Pawar joined his teammate with a surprisingly easy 21-18 21-11 result over Hsuan Yi Hsueh (Tpe). Continue reading
