Saina continues to sizzle

Jakarta, June 26: Saina Nehwal’s astonishing run of form continued as she made the final of the Indonesia Open Super Series in Jakarta with an unexpectedly easy victory over Eriko Hirose of Japan. The top seed required less than half-an-hour to beat a player who had beaten her at the Denmark Open Super Series in October. Saina’s clinical 21-9 21-10 victory on Saturday leaves her just a victory short of defending her Indonesia Open title, and a further move up the rankings. Continue reading

Saina on verge of creating history

Jakarta: Saina Nehwal won one of the biggest matches of her career with a 25-23 21-19 win over China’s Lu Lan in the semifinals of the Indonesia Open to enter her first Super Series final. Saina will play another Chinese, Wang Lin, in the final. The victory on Saturday makes a milestone in Saina’s career, for it is her first win over a top-level Chinese since her defeat of World Champion Zhu Lin at the China Masters last year. Indonesia Open: Anup falls; Anand qualifies

Jakarta, June 16: Anup Sridhar, who last week reached the quarterfinals of the Singapore Open Super Series, fell in the second round of qualifying of the Indonesia Open Super Series. Anup, who was suffering from a stomach muscle tear, lost to Tanongsak of Thailand 21-23 21-12 21-11. The Indian had earlier beaten Stephen Wojcikiewicz of Canada in the first round of qualifying. Meanwhile, Anand Pawar made it to the main draw of the men’s singles. Pawar received a walkover from Englad’s Carl Baxter and then beat compatriot Ajay Jayaram 21-18 21-18.
