Sai Praneeth, Sindhu win national junior title

Yanam (Pondicherry): Sai Praneeth and PV Sindhu won the 35th National Junior Championships (Dec 3 to 10). Top seed and defending champion Sai Praneeth beat second seed Sameer Verma 21-11 21-18, while Sindhu overcame second seed Saili Rane 21-15 21-6 retd.
The final before the final was Praneeth versus close rival HS Prannoy, who had beaten him in the semis of the Bank of India tournament at Bangalore the previous week. Praneeth beat Prannoy in the semis, 19-21 21-11 21-14. Continue reading

Praneeth, Prannoy favourites for title

Indian junior badminton players Sai Praneeth and HS Prannoy go in to the Youth Olympics with a distinct shot at a gold medal. Without principal contender Viktor Axelsen of Denmark, the World Junior Champion, it’s a fair bet that either Praneeth or Prannoy can go all the way to the title. Both had won bronze medals in the singles of the World Juniors, with Praneeth falling to Axelsen in the semifinals. The inaugural edition of the Youth Olympics begin in Singapore on August 14.
