Ajay Jayaram, Anand Pawar advance into main draw

Birmingham: Ajay Jayaram and Anand Pawar entered the main draw of the All England Open Premier Super Series tournament, winning both their qualifying matches on Tuesday. In the first round of qualifying, Jayaram got past Dutch veteran Eric Pang 21-17 21-14, while Pawar overcame young Dane Rune Ulsing 21-10 22-20. Later in the day, Jayaram had another good win, over Hans-Christian Vittinghus (Den) 17-21 21-15 22-20. Anand Pawar joined his teammate with a surprisingly easy 21-18 21-11 result over Hsuan Yi Hsueh (Tpe). Continue reading

Indonesia Open: Anup falls; Anand qualifies

Jakarta, June 16: Anup Sridhar, who last week reached the quarterfinals of the Singapore Open Super Series, fell in the second round of qualifying of the Indonesia Open Super Series. Anup, who was suffering from a stomach muscle tear, lost to Tanongsak of Thailand 21-23 21-12 21-11. The Indian had earlier beaten Stephen Wojcikiewicz of Canada in the first round of qualifying. Meanwhile, Anand Pawar made it to the main draw of the men’s singles. Pawar received a walkover from Englad’s Carl Baxter and then beat compatriot Ajay Jayaram 21-18 21-18.
